Course Description
The setting is the exquisite Garden Route, with the Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop. With 18 championship holes on a top-quality course, it is not surprising that so many good things have been said about George Golf Club. Dr Charles Molteno Murray designed the course, which is widely regarded as something of a masterpiece. “There is no better monument to Murray than the fine layout at George”, is how an article in Royal Cape’s Centenary booklet put it in 1985. This mature parkland layout has kikuyu fairways and bent frass greens, many trees and thick undergrowth. The club has over the years hosted many top S.A.G.A Tournaments and recently hosted the SA Amateur Championships. The course feels as if it has been carved out of a forest but the fairways are a generous width, so only wayward shots end up in the trees. The perfect setting for holiday golf.
